Crisis Care and Preparedness
Caring for Others in their Times of Deepest Need
Between global warming and its increasing natural disasters, aging populations and new diseases, there are a wide variety of crises occurring in the world. Many people enter situations with deep compassion, wanting to help in some way … but find they don’t know how. These workshops may focus on teaching the fundamental principles to be aware of when entering crisis situations, ways to care for those going through a crisis, and also ways to prepare ahead of time both materially and mentally for future crisis. Most such workshops are inspired at least partly by Buddhist wisdom and experience but open to all.
Lead Trainer
Your lead trainer in these workshops, Nathan Jishin Michon, is the editor of Refuge in the Storm: Buddhist Voices in Crisis Care and A Thousand Hands: A Guidebook to Caring for Your Buddhist Community, among other works. “Jishin” previously lived and researched in Sendai, near the epicenter of Japan’s 2011 tsunami and has helped care for both survivors there and hospice patients.
